What makes the quest to ban nuclear testing one of the most successful undertakings in the history of multilateral arms control?
How come the global alarm system to detect clandestine nuclear testing can help tsunami warning, advance earth sciences or even hear whales singing in the oceans?
CTBTO’s Spectrum is a key publication in the field of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. It profiles the entire spectrum of issues related to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), the Treaty that bans all nuclear explosions: from policy issues, verification, the science and people behind it to the CTBTO’s role in disaster mitigation.
A number of prominent international figures including heads of state, foreign ministers, senior political analysts and scientists have written articles for Spectrum, such as former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, UN Messenger for Peace Michael Douglas and former IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei.
CTBTO Spectrum is published by the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) which is the UN agency tasked with building up a globe-spanning verification regime to detect all nuclear explosions, and promoting the Treatys universality.
CTBTO Spectrum is distributed via the Apple Newsstand and subscription is free of charge.
